Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a time tested and most proven methodology worldwide in reducing the cost, improving the margin by productively deploying the resources across all types of industries. VSM helps learners visualise challenges, bottlenecks and areas of opportunities in current process (workflow) and helps scientifically develop desired process to align to departmental goals and objectives. VSM’s industry-neutral approach applies to manufacturing, non-manufacturing, banking, supply chain, healthcare and other service environments. This intensely interactive training involves experiential learning with simulations and use cases thus help connect VSM methodology to learners’ own work areas ensures effective internalization of learning with participants. The workshop will demonstrate how VSM can guide AI-enabled process and workflow improvement—simplifying work before automation and keeping customer value, human oversight and measurable outcomes central to the design.

    Objective
    • Define customer value, select critical value stream in a product or service environment.
    • Build current process map using observed workflows and relevant process data.
    • Identify bottlenecks, develop a measurable desired process (workflow) design.
    • Create an actionable improvement plan and a practical approach to sustaining results.
    • Use VSM to prioritise AI opportunities, and design workflows with human oversight and outcome-based validation.
    • Bonus takeaway: Learn how to leverage VSM methodology complemented by AI workflow and help to improve company ESG & Sustainability goals and practices

    Outline
    • VSM and customer value: VSM overview, value-added vs necessary non-value-added work and avoidable waste across product and service processes.
    • VSM and AI Workflow: Overview of how VSM can be leveraged to help develop and implement efficient Workflow for AI automation

    • Select and scope a value stream: Identify customer & their real needs, desired outcome aligning to corporate and departmental goals and objectives, process boundaries and key process (workflow) for VSM visual mapping purpose.
    • Prepare for mapping: Techniques for collecting and documenting necessary information and data on process picked up for VSM mapping – Gemba walks, Data sheets, cross functional team members identification and skilling, charter development, Stakeholder engagement.
    • Develop current process map (As-Is): Develop visual map by applying lean VSM techniques, symbols and rules. Fill various data boxes, identify value and waste (non value) in the process map visually.
    • Establish VSM KPIs: Measure, analyse VSM success metrics such as lead time, process time, quality issues, FTE, visible and hidden cost. Establish baseline and target VSM KPIs
    • Develop deep insight on current state VSM: Apply additional visual mapping tool and root cause analysis approach to understand real reason for various wastes identified
    • Develop desired VSM process map (To-Be): Design and develop desired process map . Apply proven tools and techniques to reduce waste (non-value activities and waste process steps), improve workflow, balance workload, to align with desired outcome. Identify areas of opportunities for multiple AI based workflow automation.
    • Leverage VSM to guide AI-enabled workflows: Use current state and desired state VSM map to identify suitable AI-assisted workflow opportunities. Design human–AI hand-offs, validation and escalation points in the future state
    • Implement identified improvement: Apply Prioritization techniques, develop project readiness matrix, use Kaizen based incremental implementation plans, conduct stakeholder change management, try storm (pilot) step by step planned implementation
    • Sustain improved value streams: Apply PDCA cycle for improvement metrics monitoring, develop and deploy visual management tools, update standardised work and SOP, implement workplace organization, reward the teams.

    Who should attend
    • Managers, supervisors and process owners responsible for operational or service delivery improvement.
    • Operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, banking, healthcare and administrative professionals seeking practical process-improvement skills.
    • Lean, continuous improvement, business analysis and transformation teams working across functions.
    • Digital, automation and AI project teams seeking to align technology initiatives with customer value and workflow needs.
